The botanical name for Broom crowberry is Corema conradii.

Broom crowberry is a low-growing, woody, sub-shrub. It grows on patches of bare sand. The leaves are tiny, 1/4" and narrow. Broom crowberry is an evergreen. Tiny, inconspicous flowers appear in March, before the plant produces its new leaves.

Broom crowberry plants can be either male or female.

Later, small, dark brownish-black berry-like fruits will appear.

Broom crowberry is a northern plant, which is at its southern-most limit here in New Jersey.
Broom crowberry is ranked by the NJ Natural Heritage database as an S1 species. Its status is State Endangered.

This plant is listed on the Pinelands Comprehensive Management Plan.
