The crested yellow orchid is an S3 species, a species of concern. During Witmer Stone's time, almost one hundred years ago, this orchid was described as being "frequent" throughout the Pine Barrens. This species is also Pinelands listed. |
The botanical name of the Crested Yellow Orchid is Platanthera cristata. It is found in bog, pine savannahs and in damp ground. It blooms between August and September. |
