Bog asphodel
Bog asphodel is ranked S2, and state endangered in New Jersey. It is a listed Pinelands species. Currently the federal rank shows that there is sufficient information on this species to list it federally.
The botanical name of Bog asphodel is Narthecium americanum.

Bog asphodel is a member of the lily family.It has grass-like leaves and is found in wet, peaty sands, bogs.

Its small, bright yellow flowers bloom in mid June to July. The seed capsules that remain after flowering are a rich reddish brown.


It is found only in the heart of the New Jersey Pine Barrens.
