Bog asphodel is ranked S2, and state endangered in New Jersey. It is a listed Pinelands
species. Currently the federal rank shows that there is sufficient information
on this species to list it federally. |
The botanical name of Bog asphodel is Narthecium americanum. Bog asphodel is a member of the lily family.It has grass-like leaves and is found in wet, peaty sands, bogs. Its small, bright yellow flowers bloom in mid June to July. The seed capsules that remain after flowering are a rich reddish brown. It is found only in the heart of the New Jersey Pine Barrens. |
