American chaffseed
Schwalbea americana
American chaffseed is ranked S1, state endangered. It is also federally listed as endangered and is a globally threatened species. Additionally, it is a listed Pinelands plant.
It is currently known from one location in New Jersey.

Witmer Stone, in 1911, describes chaffseed as being found in "damp sandy spots in the Pine Barrens...When in full bloom the flowers are quite handsome, pale lemon yellow and dark maroon."

Flowers early June to early July.
